KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

  The workplace

KTH Electrical Engineering conducts research and education in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information and Communications Technology, Space, Fusion and Plasma Physics. The field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at KTH is ranked #17 in the world by QS during 2016 (#16 during 2015). 450 people work in this creative and dynamic environment, out of which half are Ph.D. students, many from other countries. Our research projects are carried out in close collaboration with industry partners as well as with research colleagues from Sweden and other countries. The school is responsible for bachelor- and master programs in Electrical Engineering. The programs have a high number of applicants every year and are closely linked to the research conducted at the school.

The research at Micro and Nanosystems focuses on Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and its applications in the medical (MedMEMS), biotechnology (BioMEMS), optical (OptoMEMS) and radio frequency (RFMEMS) fields. The department staff consists of ~45 faculty members, researchers and PhD students who contribute to a high professional standard of intensive work and quality results, as well as to a friendly and open environment. Project description

In the group "In vitro neural models" we are combining micro engineering with human primary cells and stem cell-derived cells to create models of the nervous system useful for fundamental biological mechanistic studies as well as compound evaluation. This project will be combining neural models with real-time sensing of neural function, barrier function and metabolic activity. Conventional cell culture, as well as microfluidic Organ-on-Chip methods will be applied. The post doc scholarship will focus on electrophysiological measurement in Brain-on-Chip systems. The project will partially be carried out in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, Swedish Medical Nanoscience center. As a postdoctoral scholar you have many opportunities to participate at conferences, projects and other relevant events which will extend your professional network and benefit your future career.
