Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral position for the development of tools, algorithms and methods for data analysis, uncertainty quantification and risk analysis of complex systems. In this position, you will be part of the RAVEN core team (https://github.com/idaholab/raven). You will have the opportunity to apply and develop the most advanced techniques in uncertainty quantification, validation, risk analysis, and artificial intelligence to problem of interest to nuclear engineering like experimental design, reactor design, safety assessment, and economic performance of nuclear power plants. New advanced methodologies will be needed to be designed for the deployment on large computing clusters in an efficient and highly-scalable way.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
PhD in Nuclear Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or Related Engineering Field
Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English)
A good understanding of two fields among the following: nuclear reactor related thermohydraulic, safety, and system, reactor physics, and fuel performance
A good understanding of object-oriented programming (preferably python)
A proven capability to develop effective and scalable algorithms to solve challenging numerical problems
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge with artificial intelligence (supervised learning, unsupervised learning)
Knowledge with risk analysis
Knowledge of reduced order modeling techniques
Knowledge of software management platform (e.g. svn, git etc)
Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g. Agile, etc.) and basic of NQ1 procedures
Experience in working on the development of a large software platform
Selective Service Requirements
To be eligible for employment at INL males between ages 18 and 25 must register (or must have registered) with the Selective Service System (SSS).
