Postdoctoral Scholar (Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Molecular Ecology and Symbiosis)
The Baums (http://baumslab.org/,@ilianabaums) and Fisher (http://www.personal.psu.edu/crf2/) labs at Pennsylvania State University are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on coral symbiosis and molecular ecology as part of our research focus on the effects of natural and anthropogenic oil and gas inputs on the Gulf of Mexico deep coral ecosystem (http://www.ecogig.org). The successful candidate will combine ecological and genomics approaches to study how coral interact with microbes and their environment. A background in bioinformatics with experience in microbiome sequencing and analysis and/or ecological modeling is desirable. Programming skills including UNIX/LINUX and R are a plus as is experience in ocean-going research. The candidate must have a PhD in bioinformatics, evolution, marine biology, molecular ecology or related fields. The candidate will join an internationally renowned bioinformatics program (http://www.huck.psu.edu/content/graduate-programs/bioinformatics-and-genomics/faculty) and a vibrant and growing coral research group (http://www.bio.psu.edu/). Position initially for 12 months with possibility of continuation. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. The desired start data is on or before January 1, 2019.
