Postdoc in Immunology and Ion Channel Function

New York University School of Medicine

Postdoctoral positions are available in the Feske lab at New York University School of Medicine (NYUSOM) to study the role of ion channels in immune responses to infection, self (autoimmunity) and/or tumors.

The Feske has long-standing expertise in investigating calcium signaling pathways in cells of the immune system. We study the molecular regulation of calcium release-activated channels (CRAC) formed by ORAI and STIM proteins and investigate their role in the physiology of immune cells. We use mice with targeted deletion of CRACchannels and human patients with mutations in CRAC channel genes to investigate how calcium signals control immune responses to infection and tumors, and in autoimmunity and inflammation.

Besides CRAC channels, other ion channels conducting Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Na+, K+ or Cl– are expressed in T cells and other immune cells that control their function. The Feske lab is systematically investigating which ion channels regulate adaptive and innate immune responses to pathogens, tumors, and self. For these projects, we are seeking highly motivated and creative postdoctoral scientists to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of ion channel function in immune cells and their role in immunity in vitro and in vivo using animal models of infection, cancer and autoimmune diseases.

NYU School of Medicine is located in midtown Manhattan (New York City) and was recently ranked #3 among the best medical schools for research in the US by U.S. News & World Report. It is home to a world-class, collaborative community of scientists in immunology, cancer research, neuroscience and many other research areas, of which the Feske lab is an established part. Our research is published in leading journals including Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Immunity, Nature Immunology, Nature Communications, J Experimental Medicine, J Clinical Investigation and PNAS. Requirements: Candidates should have a recent MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree and a strong background in immunology, specifically the use of animal models. Candidates with experience in ion channel function in immune cells or related cell types are especially encouraged to apply. A background in molecular and cell biology is desired. Please send a cover letter explaining relevant work experience and interests, a CV, and the contact information of three references to Dr. Feske at feskes01@nyumc.org.
