The Kappe Lab at the Center for Infectious Disease Research is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scientist to research the development of novel genetically attenuated malaria parasites. The end goal is the creation of an effective vaccine that provides protection from multiple stages of the parasite’s complex life cycle.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in parasitology and will also have a strong grasp and practical knowledge of fundamental molecular biological techniques including plasmid design and the genetic manipulation of cells. The candidate would also be expected to have (i) strong written and verbal communication skills, (ii) an ability to establish clear goals and to organize and prioritize work and (iii) an ability and willingness to work with a diverse team of scientists, including postdocs, students and technicians.
Additional skills that would be advantageous but are not essential include (i) a broad understanding of immunity in connection to vaccine design, (ii) working with rodents, (iii) gene editing with CRISPR/Cas9 and (iv) flow cytometry.
