The Sheltzer Lab at Cold Spring Harbor is seeking postdoctoral researchers for several projects studying the biology of cancer.
Our laboratory is working to understand the genetic differences between normal, malignant, and metastatic cells. To that end, we are applying CRISPR mutagenesis, chromosome engineering, and single-cell sequencing to interrogate different types of cancer genetic alterations. We are particularly interested in using these technologies to model and characterize two types of alterations: 1) whole-chromosome aneuploidy and 2) druggable cancer dependencies.
Our laboratory has pioneered new methods to analyze the role that gene dosage imbalances play in tumorigenesis (Sheltzer et al., 2017; Smith and Sheltzer, 2018). These approaches have furthered our understanding of the relationship between aneuploidy and cancer and have revealed multiple unexpected ways that these chromosomal alterations can affect tumor progression. We are seeking postdocs who are interested in using these approaches to uncover how aneuploidy and chromosomal instability can influence cancer initiation, drug resistance, and metastatic dissemination.
We have also used CRISPR mutagenesis to dissect various cancer drug targets. Our research has revealed surprising discrepancies between the reported mechanisms-of-action of different anti-cancer agents and how these drugs actually work (Lin et al., 2017; Giuliano et al., 2018). We are seeking postdocs to apply cutting-edge CRISPR techniques to identify novel cancer dependencies and to discover the true targets of multiple cancer-killing drugs.

We are located at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, an immersive research institute on the outskirts of New York City.
