A Postdoctoral Associate position is available immediately in the lab of Professor Jane Carlton (http://janecarltonlab.org) in the Center for Genomics & Systems Biology at New York University.
Projects in the Carlton Lab study the biology and evolution of parasites, such as species of Plasmodium and the most common sexually transmitted parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. We analyze human and animal isolates obtained through field-based work in the USA and through an NIH-funded International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research based in India (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/india-icemr). Using the tools of comparative genomics (sequencing, ‘omics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and population genetics), and systems biology, we aim to answer key questions in the biology, evolution, epidemiology, and transmission of parasites.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience on parasites or microbes, and be comfortable working both at the bench using the tools of molecular biology and genomics, as well as in silico using statistical and bioinformatics tools. Ideally there will be a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Good written and oral skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team is a plus.
