The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI) is offering a post- doctoral research position in aeroacoustics. VKI deeply involved in research programs aimed at developing efficient and quiet innovative propulsion systems for conventional tube-and-wing aircraft architectures as well as more disruptive Urban Air Mobility concepts. The research program addresses both aeropropulsive efficiency and noise emissions, and is supported by the H2020 RIA project ENODISE.
In this framework, VKI is actively collaborating with leading EU research institutions. The selected candidate is thus expected to stimulate collaboration with those partners. The focus of the post-doctoral research is on the development of new propeller technologies and on the tight integration of the propulsive systems with the airframe using Boundary Layer Ingestion and Distributed Electric Propulsion strategies. Experimental as well as numerical activities are foreseen, together with numerical optimization and the assessment of novel noise mitigation technologies.
VKI is committed to deliver high-quality research, and the post-doctoral researcher will be expected to produce top-level publications as part of the dissemination actions of the funding instruments. He/she will be expected to take an active part in the supervision of PhD candidates. The starting date is December 2020. The baseline duration of the position is one year, but an extension may be granted pending on researcher performance and funding opportunities generated by the host institutions or by the researcher him/herself.
The multidisciplinary topics addressed in this project are scientifically challenging and of high technological and economical relevance, promising interesting career perspectives in academic and multi-sectorial industrial environments.
