Carry out a research programme independently in organic chemistry in a laboratory
This project aims to develop new multi-catalytic methods combining photoredox catalysis and metal catalysis based on cobalt, an abundant and eco-compatible metal. Starting from cheap and/or easily accessible substrates, an activation- elimination sequence will be developed in order to prepare a library of alkenes under mild, selective and eco-compatible conditions. This organic chemistry project will involve synthesis methodology, development of cobalt complexes, photoredox catalysis, and the use of flow chemistry.
Eligibility criteria
Within two teams, the candidate will be responsible for the synthesis and characterisation of new compounds. Particular attention will be paid to developing new cobalt-based metal complexes with a well-defined structure for catalytic applications. This subject has a broad multidisciplinary component (organic and organometallic synthesis, photoredox catalysis). A background in synthetic chemistry is therefore essential, as well as an open mind and a taste for multidisciplinary work. The candidate must have a very good knowledge of organic chemistry, be curious, motivated, autonomous and follow the bibliography.
