The newly created Host-Microbiota Interactions lab in Rennes, France is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead projects on how Mucosal-Associated Invariant T (MAIT) cells develop and interact with the microbiota. MAIT cell antigens are metabolites derived from the vitamin B2 biosynthesis pathway, absent from animal cells but present in most bacteria and yeasts. Both the receptor and the MHC molecule presenting antigens to MAIT cells are highly conserved in evolution, suggesting important – yet unclear – functions linked to antigen recognition. We use mouse models, metagenomics and gnotobiology to explore how microbiota-derived metabolites affect MAIT cell biology.
The Host-Microbiota Interactions lab is located at the Institute for Genetics and Development in Rennes (IGDR), a 200-person structure affiliated with the CNRS, INSERM and the University of Rennes. IGDR provides a rich and vibrant environment for basic and translational research characterised by multidisciplinary approaches in biology, biophysics, bioinformatics and biomedical sciences. IGDR is located on the biomedical campus of Rennes and is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities for flow cytometry, imaging, proteomics, animal facility etc.
Candidates should hold, or be in the process of completing, a PhD (or equivalent) in biology, immunology or a related field. Demonstrated experience in mouse immunology or fluorescence microscopy is necessary. Of note, applicants must have spent at least 18 months outside of France since May 2019. We offer an initial 2-years contract with salary according to experience.
