This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics is seeking a 12-month, post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research in experimental quantum optics. The initial appointment will be for one year and is full-time and benefitted, with potential for renewal for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design, assemble and perform quantum optics experiments with heralded single photons.
Characterize and maintain lasers, optical detectors and other laboratory equipment.
Implement models of photon propagation and non-linear optics using python.
Analyze results with PI and draft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grants.
Present research at conferences.
Mentor junior team members.
Required Competencies
Familiarity with optical benchtop experiments, laser systems, and optical detectors
Excellent technical writing skills
Desire to solidify a research career in optics and establish and independent research
direction
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in experimental quantum optics or related field
Demonstrated evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
Have research experience in at least one of the following topics (1) photon pair sources, (2) quantum key distribution, (3) non-linear frequency conversion, (4) fiber optics, (5) interferometry, (6) free-space optical communication
Research background in optics
Programming experience (python preferred, Fortran, LabView)
Experience with hardware control, hardware programming
Experience with CAD (Inventor, Solidworks), fabrication
